NELGA Alumni Workshop

The NELGA Alumni Workshop took place in Accra, Ghana, from 7–11 July 2025, bringing together more than 70 participants from across Africa, including alumni, experts, university partners, and practitioners in land governance. Organised by GIZ’s SLGA (Strengthening Advisory Capacities for Land Governance in Africa) and DAAD, the workshop highlighted the importance of alumni networks and strategic partnerships in driving collaborative impact. Delegates represented a wide range of countries, including Benin, Ghana, Nigeria, Namibia, Ethiopia, South Africa, and several others, reflecting the diverse perspectives and experiences shaping land governance on the continent.

The programme featured sessions on fundraising through academic institutions, engaging the private sector and NGOs in land governance initiatives, programme design and monitoring, and building consultancy careers by identifying skills, opportunities, and entrepreneurial pathways. Participants, including Mr Daniel B. Wehyee from Liberia, stressed the value of leveraging the NELGA Alumni network to enhance knowledge exchange and strengthen land governance strategies. Overall, the workshop underscored the establishment of focal personnel for the NELGA Alumni network and how regional collaboration, expert exchange, and capacity-building frameworks can meaningfully contribute to achieving the objectives of the AU Agenda on Land.
